The 4.48 acres feels private and serene. The back yard includes several swings and a large gazebo overlooking the pond in back. The property also features a two car detached garage with bonus room, full bath and an attached screened-in porch which also overlooks the pond. The spacious backyard acreage is perfect for entertaining guests. There is plenty of room for children to play and explore.
Due West is a wonderful Mayberry style community built around Erskine College. This town enjoys many amenities including a community park/ playground, community pool, Erskine College's art center and music hall. The community is very inviting, and during the evenings you will find many residents walking the sidewalks or cruising around town in their golf carts. Plus, Abbeville County school district has been recently ranked 10th in the state! If you enjoy the outdoors, Abbeville is centrally located between several large recreational lakes and includes large portions of national forest.
This house, according to a written historical account, was built around 1839 by James Lindsay. During that time, Abbeville Street was the main street of Due West and a part of the public road which ran from Ninety Six to Pendleton. The Lindsay family was the “first family” in this area and in 1764 its members secured land grants along the stream, “Lindsay branch,” which runs behind this house. Among its later owners in the 1870s, was Captain James Pratt, who served in Co. G, Orr's Rifles during the Civil War, and returned from the war as its captain. His daughter Nina married W. A Carter of south Georgia, and one of her grandsons was President Jimmy Carter, who has visited the property. This pristine property is rich in local history and has been very well taken care of.
